Multilayer Capacitors
| Applications | Purpose |
| Ship to shore radios for transmitting and receiving | Radios operating over medium range at power levels around one kilowatt and frequencies in the 10 to 60 MHz region for distress signalling and message communications. |
| Military Radios - Back Pack Type (walkie-talkie radios) | As Ship to Shore Radios |
| Magnetic Resonance lmaging - MRI | In Medical Body Scanners the capacitors are used to resonate at a particular frequency (10 to 64 MHz) which in turn gives an excitation resonance in the particular nuclei in the body. |
| RF Power - Plasma Generators (1 to 5kW) used in Semiconductor Manufacture. | RF Power used to ionise gas thus generating RF plasma used in various deposition 1 etching 1 cleaning processes. |
| High Power Matching Networks in Plasma Generators. | Matching network used to tune Plasma Chamber impedance to a constant load. |
How and why these capacitors are used
These capacitors have relatively high capacitance values due to the ceramic dielectric and the series/parallel internal structure used.
They have small size and low weight due to the high breakdown strength of the dielectric used.
They handle high RF power and high peak current levels due to the low loss / high Q of the ceramic dielectric.
They exhibit low equivalent series resistance (ESR) resulting in the high RF current carrying capability.
They exhibit low equivalent series inductance (ESL) extending the upper limit to their high frequency use.
