Morgan Technical Ceramics Introduces New Piezoelectric Materials
The new piezoelectric materials are formulated with Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT), a ceramic material made of lead (Pb), oxygen (O) and titanium (Ti) or zirconium (Zr). The materials have enhanced coupling, high d33 and high dielectric constants, characteristics that improve transducer sensitivity and efficiency and allow higher frequency and smaller element size compared to other conventional piezoceramic materials.
The PZT-5K-HD series is ideal for use in medical sensors and low power medical devices, including sensors for blood pressure, auditory sounds, vascular flow and medical imaging. PZT-5K-HD series material has excellent transmit and receive constants (d and g) that result in enhanced sensitivity in any transmit/receive transducer application. The material is specifically formulated for high coupling values and improved dielectric properties. Well suited for thin and small parts, the materials are available in thicknesses from .003” to .500” and a wide range of areas. Electrodes available include silver, nickel, and gold plating for wire bonding.
For demanding transducer and actuator applications, MTC now offers its PZT-508-HD series. Applications include medical imaging, inkjet printing and actuators. The new high density material is designed to achieve low porosity and a uniform microstructure. The material offers increased dielectric constant, low dielectric losses and improved electromechanical coupling coefficients. Its higher dielectric permittivity and coupling result in higher sensitivity in imaging and other sensing applications. Improved mechanical properties result in improved machinability for generating finer features.
The two materials are compositionally different, with unique dielectric properties. These two distinct formulations were created to fill certain product needs and are, therefore, not similar in their performance, though some uses could overlap based on customer needs.
MTC provides exceptional customer service and the ability to custom design products based on specific customer needs.
