Microwave Component Type - Puck Resonators and Assemblies
Notes for Puck Specification
- A puck resonator will normally be specified by a
resonant frequency, frequency tolerance, Q requirements and Temperature Coefficient of
Frequency (TCF) requirement. Care should be taken not to over specify the part as significant cost
penalties can occur particularly if tight machining tolerances are required.
- A frequency specification will always take
precedence over a mechanical specification - it is normal to tune the component in one dimension
usually thickness.
- Supports are bonded to pucks using an organic
adhesive suitable for most surface mount applications.
- As a general rule the thickness of the components
should be maintained between 0.35 and 0.45 of the diameter of the component.
- Dielectric tuning elements (eg plungers and discs)
can be supplied in most of our materials
- Resonators and or supports can be supplied with
custom thick film silver patterns.
- Morgan Electro Ceramics have a range of test
fixtures in which puck measurements can be made. We can establish a correlation between our test
fixture and your circuit.
High Q Solution for Higher Frequencies
The performance requirements of some systems have
become more demanding, particularly those requiring high Q, for example phase locked DRO applications
where noise has to be kept to a minimum. Morgan Electro Ceramics is able to offer a monolith
solution (resonator with integral standoff) as an alternative to the standard resonator/standoff bonded
assembly.

Custom Shapes and Prototypes
Morgan Electro Ceramics have many years experience
in the fabrication of ceramic components. We have access to the latest machining capabilities to offer a
fast response for your prototype requirements. Our
materials processing capability and knowledge enables us to provide you with custom solutions if
ready alternatives are not available. Fully machined solutions can be manufactured in most cases that will
meet your prototyping requirements without the need for tooling. Our extensive knowledge of thick film
metallisation means we can also provide custom metallisation patterns to meet your requirements.
We are always ready to discuss options for manufacture and to help you develop your prototype
into a cost effective and high quality solution.
