How and why these capacitors are used These capacitors have relatively high capacitance values due to the ceramic dielectric and the series/parallel internal structure used. They have small size and low weight due to the high breakdown strength of the dielectric used. They handle high RF power and high peak current levels due to the low loss / high Q of the ceramic dielectric. They exhibit low equivalent series resistance (ESR) resulting in the high RF current carrying capability. They exhibit low equivalent series inductance (ESL) extending the upper limit to their high frequency use.
